Neko no Sara

You know, back in the day, a shop dealing in secondhand wares is a difficult business to run. If an opportunity does come up however, he usually makes a lot of money. But such opportunities don't come by that often. Such is life. Therefore a dealer usually goes off into the countryside to find rare objects. For instance, if the dealer sees some valuable ceramic vase at some old farmer's house, and it just so happens to be that the farmer doesn't know the true value of the vase, the dealer would buy it off the farmer at a much much lower price.

This story is about a secondhand shop dealer such as the one I just described. He went far into the countryside dressed up as an ordinary traveler. It was during the Edo period, right before Meiji, the mid-19th century. So he wore a kimono, and put on some waraji (sandals made out of straw). He's been walking around a lot and hasn't had a good find in a long time. He was tired and pretty pissed off from all the walking. Apparently he thought it was too early for the sun to be setting. When he unconsciously turned his head to face the sun, he saw a rustic old tea stall shining gloriously, the sun's rays glaring from behind. There were two benches side by side. Tartan checkered mats were laid and bucket shaped ash trays were placed on them. He then realized that an old man was blowing air into fire very hard with a bamboo pipe behind him.

Dealer : Hey gramps..
Old Man : Ah, please have a seat. I will prepare some tea for you.
Dealer : Thank you. May I rest here? I am exhausted, but once I find a hotel, I will be fine. It's nice around here isn't it? Peaceful and quiet. The scenery here is great too. Look, the stream looks so beautiful! I feel like I will get two or three years younger.
Old Man : Yes, well, please have a cup of tea.

The old man then brought a cup on a tray from behind the stall. There was a pot for rice crackers and a lot of boxes for cheap sweets were placed side by side next to it. By the stall, a cat was eating food from a small dish. When the dealer looked closer at the dish, he realized quickly that it was a valuable dish from Korea. Now, the pot would not be sold easily, even with a price tag with over 300 ryo. Ryo was the currency in the Edo era, and 1 ryo would easily equal to 10,000 yen present day. (About USD100, if I recall correctly or RM380 roughly) So you understand the value of this plate now, don't you? So the dealer started thinking to himself.

Dealer : Wow, what a great find! He must have no idea how it really costs, feeding the cat with it like that! Great!
Old Man : Ummm- sir? Would you like another cup of tea?
Dealer : Oh yes, I would. You have a good cat! Kitty, kitty, kitty! Ah it's coming, it's coming. Good good, come here. Come, hahaha, it's pretty cute isn't it?
Old Man : Ah, sir, Ahhnn, it's not a good idea to play with the cat like that.
Dealer : Don't worry, I'm a cat person. Cats are cute creatures. Look, it's purring on my lap, hahaha.
Old Man : Hey, you shouldn't dirty our guest's clothes like that! Come on, get down!
Dealer : It's alright, look, it's pretty comfortable for this guy here. This cat is pretty tame and friendly, isn't it?
Old Man : Hmm, you look like you like cats, and the cat knows it. It knows you like it.
Dealer : Yes, I use to have a cat. But it went away and disappeared. My wife always says to me "If you go somewhere and find a nice cat bring it back." but I think kittens are too small and would run away or die easily. But I think cats this size and age are pretty good. So what do you think, can you give this cat to me?
Old Man : What?
Dealer : Come now, don't give me that strange look. I know, how about I pay you for this cat? How about three koban? (a type of coin, koban = 1 ryo, ooban = 10 ryo, basically he's willing to pay 30, 000 yen for the cat)

Dealer : You don't mind do you? You seem to have more out at the back.
Old Man : I know you are right, but I lost my wife a long time ago and these cats are all I have to keep me company. This cat especially has been quite attached to me. So...
Dealer : Yes, but please, just one? I don't have a kid you see..
Old Man : But 3 ryos are too much mister!
Dealer : I can't have no as an aswer, just take them please. It's not that much..
Old man : Haha, is that so? Then thank you very much, I will humbly accept your offer.
Dealer : Take a look gramps, it fell asleep on my lap. It's very cute. Once I get to the hotel I will give it good food. Ah, have you fed your cat with this plate?
Old Man : Yes, in fact I have.
Dealer : Well, you know they say a plate won't eat from a new plate, so I will take this plate and feed it with it, okay? This plate?
Old Man : Ah no, here's another one, please take this one instead.
Dealer : It's alright, you don't care if I take this dirty one right?
Old Man : Well..you see, I can't give you that plate.
Dealer : Why not? Why would you care about this filthy dish?
Old Man : You say it's filthy, but I think you don't realize it. This is a valuable ceramic vase from Korea. It's limited edition stuff. I have become such a poor person, but I cannot part with this vase. It costs more than 300 ryo you know.

Of course, you see, now the dealer is naturally taken aback by this.

Dealer : Hmmm, is that so. It's worth that much money? But why did you feed the cats with such an expensive plate? I'm interested.
Old man : You see sir, it is both interesting and funny. When I feed a cat with this plate, sometimes a cat is sold for 3 ryo.

-THE END-
------------------

Lol, well, I'm not sure if you all got that. It's my rendition of the original Rakugo story from Japan called Neko no Sara, or a cat's dish/plate if you want. I might be doing a couple more of these when I have time. The stories are pretty funny anyways, at least to me. Well, I've taken an interest in Rakugo (the stories, not the occupation) after watching the J-Drama Tiger and Dragon, or Toradora, for short lol. It shares its name with an anime with a similar title, which is why I downloaded it, but it's a different story altogether, although it's still pretty damn funny. Check it out if you have the time, Tokio's Nagase Tomoya is in it, as well as V6's Okada Junichi, both as Tora and Dora respectively. Ma, that's all for now. Work is gonna pile up again soon, but after going through a few things, I think I have a better perspective on things for now. Temporary optimistic boost I guess? Hahaha.

Eggs

Yes, once again I've picked up the habit of collecting eggs. Well, these may seem familiar, it's because they're Pokemon eggs XD Well, I'm easily amused by these kind of things, even though I know what will hatch from most of the eggs. I can only keep 6 at a time so once these hatch and evolve I'll dump them to pick new set of eggs huhuhu =X Clickity and warm them if you don't mind (or if you're curious)~ Thanks~ Will update my blog again soon, although it's been awfully quiet over here.

Hatsune Miku - Vocal Evolution

First, listen to this song.

http://rapidshare.com/files/221526214/Kumikyoku_Nico_Nico_Douga__Vocaloid_Rin__Len__Miku_ver.__1_.mp3

You don't have to, but it's not a bad song. By the way, for those who have been sharing my RS account, please be informed that sharing accounts on RS is no longer allowed, so yeah, I changed the pw because if they found out I'd lose the account. Er, back to the topic. Did you recognize any songs within that one song? (Salutations if you do) Well, you want to know who sang those songs? You do, you don't? Well, TOO BAD you don't have a choice (unless of course you stop reading at this point, which is not highly suggested). Anyways, it isn't sung by a person, but rather by a computer voice synthesizer software called Vocaloid. You just type in the lyrics and melody and the software sings for you. There are couple of voice choices (with differing mascots each version) available, but I think only two languages are accesible at the moment - Japanese and English. You can read more about it here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocaloid if you are interested. If you are especially interested in sound engineering or sound technology, sonic design or studio technology, I think this is a pretty interesting topic.

Straying off topic completely, here's the first generation mascot for the Japanese version of Vocaloid, Hatsune Miku.

animation49

Hatsune Miku's voice is based off Japanese seiyuu (voice actor) Saki Fujita. Not a bad looker eh? I think she is wiki-able, so if you want to find out more about her just Google her up.

09102008-24

And completely straying off topic, here's a wallpaper of Hatsune Miku I worked on earlier. 5 Different versions, I'm not sure which to upload, so meh, upload all la. Well, all almost the same, except for the colour scheme and layer order. First two have texture layer upfront, and the last three have it on the back. I need some feedback before I upload -1- to another site lol. Comments and suggestions much appreciated.

Specs: 1920x1080px, RGB, Filesize roughly 1.8mb, 32 layers, typeface used Helvetica, concept based off Art Nouveau and Techno style..

To: Min Dear

Warning: Mushy(?) content ahead.

Kinda not sure why I decided to blog, even though I haven't got a clue what exactly is on my mind right now. I can't focus because my thoughts are too jumbled up to piece together. So I'm on my break, the pressure is less, there's more time to rest up, and thus the conclusion is that I shouldn't be stressed out or anything of the sort. But then again, it's me, and I usually have no power or ability to stop my own train of thoughts from moving on. In fact, I may just be overthinking, but I still can't help it. Regardless, this is -my- blog, and I think I reserve the rights to voice out my own thoughts.

So..problems. Different people have different problems and troubles. Some have financial problems, some have problems deciding their futures, some have troubles with their loved ones. Usually, people deal with their problems differently as well. From the religious viewpoint, we turn to God, but when God doesn't answer us the way we want it, we tend to take matters into our own hands. Some chose an abusive manner to avoid their problems, merely procrastinating, with the usage of drugs, inflicting self injury (you know what I'm talking about) and whatnot. When faced in a corner with nowhere to go and problems barking up your tree, you turn to the ones you love most (friends, family, spouse) . After all, if you can't turn to them, who else can you turn to? Right? But still, to each their own. Some people are strong enough, or they -think- they are strong enough to pull themselves through. Sometimes I wish I had that.

Well, dear, if you are reading this I hope if you are going through anything, or if you are facing difficulties, I hope you still remember that I'm still around (although perhaps that isn't much of a consolation) and if you need someone to talk to, complain to, you can turn to me. It's only fair since you've been there for me in times of need..Well, a relationship takes -two-, so don't keep me in the dark..okies? Miss you heaps. I'll be back this mid year around June, so I'll see you then. Just another month or so.

Hahah, well, I guess that's pretty much it. Take care folks.

Yeah..Well..

Ah, it's Easter Sunday, but I guess I'm not going to mass. It's actually raining quite heavily right now, pitter-patter on my window. Hmm, on my one week break now. I'm getting all the rest and relaxation I deserve after all the hassle earlier. I've got maybe 1 or 2 assignments due right after the break is over but those aren't pretty heavy, so I suppose I'll leave those for a little bit later.

There's only two other people at home besides myself, Ang and Jang, lol. Sean and Gerald went on a gay I mean trip to Penang. Hope he brings back a few packets of Char Kuey Teow, I certainly wouldn't mind indulging myself in the Penang CKT goodness, although I'd have to wait a couple of days..

Hmm, nothing much lately. Just catching up on my sleep, going to the gym once in a while. Sorting out payments as well. It's a pain, since we're one person short (damn you Kenny, lol) the rest of us have to fork out extra for his portion.

Well, during my sem break, currently there are 3 things in mind. Go to Japan with Gerald (wohoo) for the whole of the sem break, back to Brunei for the most of the time, or back to Brunei for 2 weeks, then come back and bunk with Larrie here in KL for a bit. Well, guess I'll have to think about it.

Which reminds me, try looking up Hatsune Miku, it's kinda a cool thing going on right now. Well, at least if you're into music, anime, Japan or sound technology it is.

Been a little lonely without Min, she's been busy with a lot of stuff lately, as have I. Well, I'm off to surf the net and whatnot. Kinda funny now that I haven't got much to do, I'm looking for something to do. See you guys around...

Typeface (Fonts) + Sample Poster

All here above posters are designed by yours truly, not amazing, but what to do, lecturer has been a bitch, rejecting about god knows how many different versions after versions. Presentation is tomorrow and these are the final versions. Can't be bothered to satisfy his personal taste and opinion. The main (big ones) typefaces (or fonts, if you prefer) are all manually made, in Adobe Illustrator, images obtained from the net and modified in Photoshop.

First typeface is Bones Serif Ultra Light, for the Bones Exam poster, I think you can look closer to see the details on the font (if you want). Second poster features Naifu Sans Serif, a katana-esque typeface, if you notice it, for the Japanese Cultural Festival. Last typeface is the display font, Terrestial Real Type, for the SciFi Convention.

All posters are samples and are not actual events. To explain the terms a little, Sans Serif means without Serif, and Serif are short horizontal or vertical lines added on fonts, and a display font is basically a font that is more decorative than it is legible.

Examples of Sans Serif : Arial, Helvetica, Impact
Examples of Serif : Bodoni, Bookman Old Style, Courier New

Display/Decoratives are self explanatory.

You can look these up in Microsoft Word if you're interested. Ah well, off to print these in a bit. Hope everything goes well for the presentation tomorrow. Thoughts?

I don't understand...

..what it is that I've done wrong. Makes me wonder how the karma system works nowadays. Yes yes, we're taught not to expect anything in return.

But is it..

Do good things = Get fucked from behind again?
Does being responsible means you have to bear everything, and still get used after all that?
Opportunists who take advantage of a person's goodwill can just burn.

Am I isolating people away with stress? Lol, you tell me. Am I such undeserving of a break, that I have to keep up with this facade? Meh. I'm gonna hibernate during the whole mid sem break. I'm gonna take my ideals, my opinions, and sleep with them all week long. God that sounds wrong. Had enough rejection academically and mentally. Anyways, nights.

The Day The World Went Away

"The Day The World Went Away"

I'd listen to the words he'd say
but in his voice I heard decay
the plastic face forced to portray
all the insides left cold and gray
there is a place that still remains
it eats the fear it eats the pain
the sweetest price he'll have to pay
the day the whole world went away..

Completely Random

Every year I have this -long entry- which I usually post at the end of the year after compiling certain experiences together and it usually starts like so :

After 17 years of living...
I'm 18 now and...

--------------------------

But let's get straight to the point. I guess I'll do things a little differently this year. Consider this the report that I've come up with for the first quarters of year 2009.

Addressing the issue: I've underestimated this year, it's been both shitty and great, unlike what I expected right before we switched that number 8 into a number 9 just a couple of months ago. Last year, to put bluntly, was shitty all year round but ended with an amazing bang (for obvious personal reasons) for me. I thought 2009 would be great all year long, but it seems I'm wrong already.

Pointers:

-You can never have enough sleep during the phases of your tertiary education, ever. Well, at least I can't get enough. Don't know about you lot out there. Maybe I just suck at -Time Management-.

-Modules shouldn't be judged based on credit hours. The lightest module I have is supposed to be -Typography- (3.0 credit hours) but so far it's been giving me more hell than the module with the highest credit hour and my own major.

-Some people have a knack for pissing others off. You find this out in the later years of your college life. All is good when you're buddy-buddy in the beginning, but when there's a slope, you gotta go downhill, regardless.

-If you didn't do so well and/or failed at the end of something, and said this : "I've probably tried my best, so it's fine." It probably means that it wasn't your best, or you're just consoling yourself. After all, you ought to know your own true potential. Trying to do something and actually doing something are two different things as well.

-If you know someone who's working or in uni/college, and they're having a bad day or in a real bad mood, try cheering them up. It's good karma. Plus, you can't blame them for being cranky, shit happens. They might return the favour someday if you've done good. Knowing and experiencing are once again, two different things. Between knowledge and experience I think experiencing something gives you a better outlook or perspective on certain agendas.

-"You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk." is something to keep in mind. Don't make promises you can't keep, or take up responsibilities you can't handle. Life's a bitch if you're trying to be full of it and your river might overflow, causing floods all around, i.e When you pick up more than you ought, you tend to burden other people around you, unconsciously, sometimes. Lastly, don't suggest ideas that you can't execute.

-Don't hold hands with another guy (if you're a guy) in public, even if you're using the excuse of asking them to examine a skeletal wound for you. It's just...gay? and misleading. Especially if you're in a family restaurant.

-Get enough sleep before hitting the gym.

-Don't drink strawberry milk, Coke, ice lemon tea and 100plus (or any friggin different beverages) consecutively before going to the gym. The end result is not pleasant.

-Always check your bloody pockets to make sure nothing is missing, even if you're dead tired and can't be bothered to shift your hands. Get someone to put their hands in your pocket, preferably a spouse, helps to make it less disturbing.

-Don't stick your head out of the window just to feel the fresh air, especially not when your friend is speeding. A tree branch might appear out of nowhere and poke you in the eye. Or ear. Or nose. Well, you get what I mean.

-If you're attempting to get into a relationship, make sure it doesn't affect your work progress. Or if you're already in a relationship, make sure you treasure it. Make an effort to keep in touch whenever, crack bad dirty jokes, be caring, bla bla..the usual. Some appreciate it more than you think. (Not referring to my own or any other people's relationships, just stuff in general.)

-If your roommate twists and turns when he sleeps, or does any action that involves hurting you, make sure you learn some evasive sleep maneuvers. If you wake up with a foot in your mouth, or your hands in any other dangerous regions, then its your fault.

Conclusion:
There's still a long looong way till the end of 2009. Let's hope the shit stays behind as we progress through the months. Or at least let the shitload lessen. I think that's pretty much it. Oh, and phone thieves + dishonest shopkeepers can burn in hell for all I care.

Trivia:
My 4th monthsary with Min was on April's Fools.
(Lol.)

G'Night folks.

Seems like a strange drama has unfold,
How to deal with it I don't wanna be told,
It all seems unreal,
Yet it all seems surreal,
So let me make myself clear,
That we don't need you here,
Take your garbage and bring it elsewhere,
You don't get to complain that life isn't fair,
Just go away, don't come back,
Don't bother explaining when you don't know whack,
We don't need another shitty attitude,
Don't need another ego of your magnitude,
Had enough of your acting and drama,
Faking your life and making it full of trauma,
From now on out, I'm gonna turn away and leave you behind,
If you think I'll be back then you're outta your mind.

Yes its 9.30am and I'm awake. Nothing much about this, just something self expressive. Heck, part of what I wrote isn't even what I'm feeling (sort of), just needed to fill the void. Going to sleep now. Just managed to finish some stuff.

What's on Kevin's playlist?

Nan Quan Ma Ma - Xia Yu Tian

Wang Lee Hom - Xin Tiao

Well, these two songs have been on my Winamp playlist more than often lately, just want to post them up here since I have nothing much to blog about either. Other than these two songs, these are the top 10 songs on my playlist for now:

1. Wang Lee Hom - 春雨裡洗過的太陽 (The Sun After Washed by Spring Rain)
2. 神木与瞳 - 武装的蔷薇
3. Wang Lee Hom feat Jane Zhang - 另一個天堂 (Another Heaven)
4. Wada Kouji - Butterfly
5. Shimokawa Mikuni - Alone
6. Hugh Grant & Haley Benett - Way Back into Love
7. Westlife - Queen of My Heart
8. Jay Chou - 给我一首歌的时间 (Give Me the Time of a Song)
9. Linkin Park - Breaking the Habit
10. Sampson - Kenangan Terindah (Sweetest Memories)

Yes, I realize I'm somewhat half-banana of the sorts, so listening to mandarin songs is kinda strange but meh, whatever gets me through the lonely nights. I guess its supposed to help my mandarin listening skills, which is only of primary school standards.

By the way, pinyin lyrics for the MVs - http://chinesemusicblog.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5290 (Comes with English translation, albeit rough though) and http://chinesemusicblog.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5716 (Include the whole Xin Tiao album's lyrics). Anyways enjoy, I am once again, off to nap.

I...

..seriously need a break from all this shit. Fucking exhausted from just keeping my own sanity in check. I don't know why I'm made this way, but yes, the fact that I am like this makes me nothing less than an idiot. So help me. Slap some sense into me.

Gah. Gonna nap. Barely caught sleep.
